Last night, the issue of rewarding folks for running and participating in TPs came up. I wanted to sum up the discussion, and field some more suggestions and comments before moving forward with a policy.

First, pre-approval is only necessary under the following circumstances:
  • The plot is related to the ongoing game metaplot.
  • The risk factor is a 3 or greater.

Second, all PrPs will need to be approved at the conclusion, so that XP and Merits can be doled out.

Third, you can seek pre-approval of a PrP if you want an idea of what sort of rewards will be given out at the end. This is a good way of getting a handle on what the Runner and participating PCs will get at the conclusion of the PrP.

Fourth, rewards come at the conclusion of the PrP, not from the number of scenes run.

Fifth, the conclusion of the PrP is not necessarily the absolute end of a storyline. It may be the end of a 'chapter' of a story. It should, however, be considered a reasonable end to the immediate situation, although there may be follow-up. Staff will make the call on whether a plot is over for the purposes of obtaining awards.

Sixth, players receiving a Merit as a result of a PrP are not entitled to an XP award, but will receive the Merit without cost.

PostSubject: TP Rulez -- Risk Factor   Re: TP Rulez Icon_minitimeFri Nov 25, 2011 1:19 am

Here are some proposed guidelines for the Risk Factor ("RF") of PrPs.

1. The XP award is based on the RF. Runners get an XP award equal to the RF + 1. PCs each get an XP award equal to the RF.

2. If a Merit is to be awarded at the conclusion of the PrP, it must be equal to or less than the RF.

3. To determine the RF, staff must look at the following factors:

A. The probability of physical injury or death to participating PCs.
B. The probability of capture of participating PCs.
C. The probability of loss of Merits or other permanent statistics by participating PCs.
D. The estimated length of the PrP.

4. Staff retain discretion to determine the RF of a PrP, which shall range from 0 to 5. Here are some examples:

RF 0: Social event. No risk of injury, capture, or loss.
RF 1: Foray into the Hedge to search for crafting material or goblin fruit. Low risk of injury, capture, or loss.
RF 2: Expedition into the Hedge to find a specific area, crafting material, or goblin fruit. Significant risk of injury, capture, or loss.
RF 3: Prolonged expedition into the Hedge lasting over a day. Substantial risk of injury, capture, or loss.
RF 4: Extended expedition into the Hedge. Hunting for and slaying a vile creature. High risk of injury, capture, or loss.
RF 5: Boldly go where no one has gone before, and stay there like a bad rash. Better bring a body bag.

This seems fair. I'm a touch wary about the 'doesn't matter how many scenes' thing, but if you're trying to encourage very short, self-contained plots being run, it's a good way to do it. I might, just might, also suggest an additional reward for plots that are open to both Changelings and Mortals, or just to Mortals, to encourage people to include mortals in the funtimez. At least to start out with, since it's a heck of a lot easier for a Lost to get involved in a mortal plot than it is for a mortal to get involved in something that is Lost-only.
